The lake Bled, island with the Church of the Assumption and of course the castle (first mentioned in 11th century) - all worth to see. The castle is very nice and has good "medieval" atmosphere only slightly disturbed by an ice-cream hut.
The Rihemberk castle (first mentioned in 13th century) in Branik is said to be one of the most beautiful castles in Slovenia, unfortunately it was closed on Saturday with no opening hours shown on the gate.
There are actually 3 castles in Kamnik - Stari grad (ruins), Mali grad from 11th century and grad Zaprice from 16th century. Kamnik is situated 15 km N from Ljubljana.
The castle in the Capital of Slovenia is very nice, but only from the outside (while you do not see the cableway taking up tourists) - the yard was quite disappointing - full of iron, concrete and glass with an aluminum piece of modern art dominating in the centre.
The Castle of Predjama - built in 12th century (proven in 13th century) in the mouth of a cavern in a cliff. In 15 century the wily knight Erazem lived here.
The castle is situated 10 km NW from Postojna (about 55 km SW from Ljubljana)
Nice small castle, first mentioned in 1215, there is a museum with archaelogical, historical, ethnological, art and other collections. Town is 8 km S from Kranj.
